Itinerary

DAY 1

Victoria Falls

Arrive Victoria Falls. Check into Ilala Lodge, a family-run hotel set in expansive gardens and only minutes from Victoria Falls. Begin your adventure with a walk with elephants from Wild Horizons Elephant Sanctuary and Orphanage and learn their history and the current threats they face in the wild.

DAY 2

Victoria Falls

Witness two amazing views of Victoria Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, with Shearwater Victoria Falls. First, experience a bird’s eye view of Victoria Falls from a helicopter flight, then see it from the ground during a guided tour. Spend the afternoon on a historical bridge tour, then relax on a sunset cruise.

DAY 3

Victoria Falls - Johannesburg

Walk with lion cubs as they play in the grasslands at Lion Encounter, Africa’s first conservation program to ethically re-introduce offspring of captive-bred African lions back into the wild. Arrive Johannesburg. Check into Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel in the heart of business district with easy access to shopping and entertainment.

DAY 4

SoWeTo - Pretoria 

Start your day with an interactive tour of the Apartheids Museum and get a glimpse into the politics that affect the daily life of South Africans to this day. Explore SoWeTo, a town with significant history during the anti-Apartheid movement. Continue your day through Vilakazi Street in Orlando West where you visit many galleries, monuments and the Mandela House Museum. Enjoy lunch with Wandi at Wandi’s Place,a local restaurant, then continue to Pretoria, a city of modern skyscrapers that rises above an ocean of over 50,000 purple Jacaranda trees.

DAY 5

Panorama Route

Take the backseat on a scenic drive on the Panorama Route. Enjoy breathtaking views of plunging waterfalls and endless river canyons. Stop at Pinnacle and God’s Window viewpoints, where you witness Bourke’s Luck Potholes, a natural phenomenon of cylindrical sculptures at the meeting of the Blyde River and Treur River. The highlight of the day is Blude River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world. The day ends with a South African Braai, also known as barbeque. Check into Casa Do Sol Hotel & Resort and enjoy its village architecture, sub-tropical gardens and cool water pools.

DAY 6

Kruger National Park - Shangana Cultural Village

Spend the day at Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa. Comprising of six ecosystems, you will encounter a variety of birds and wild animals. Search for The Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos – but also keep an eye out for baboons, zebra, giraffe and cheetah from your open safari vehicle. Enjoy a picnic lunch. End the day at Shangana Cultural Village where you welcome the night with the celebration of an African tribe and the beating of African drums.

DAY 7

Makalali Private Game Reserve

Observe and learn about rehabilitating cheetah, wild dogs, serval and various other species at the Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species at Kapama Game Reserve. Spend the day in an open safari vehicle exploring Makalali Private Game Reserve. Check Makalali Game Lodge and get lost gazing out across endless grassland from your private wooden viewing deck.

DAY 8

Port Elizabeth

Arrive Port Elizabeth. Check into Radisson Blu Hotel Port Elizabeth with breathtaking ocean views of Algoa Bay.

DAY 9

Garden Route - Tsitsikamma National Park - Knysa

Explore secluded valleys and deep river gorges as you hike one of the many trails through the Tsitsikamma Forest. Look for ancient trees, a variety of birds and a 77 meter long suspension bridge. Meet Vervet Monkeys at MonkeyLand, a primate sanctuary, and birds at Birds of Eden. Tour the Quolweni Township, then enjoy an after school practice session by the Plettenberg Bay Field Band. Explore Knysna, a charming holiday town nestled on the banks of a lagoon which is a protected marine reserve. End the day with a sunset cruise complete with champagne and Knysa Oysters then dinner at the Knysna Waterfront. Check into The Rex Hotel where old world rural charm meats 4-star sophistication and luxury.

DAY 10

Oudtshoorn

Take a scenic drive through Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, a town nestled in the countryside amongst breathtaking mountain passes, magnificent red rocks and wide open space. Explore the Cango Caves where you will find beautiful calcite masterpieces. Check into Buffelsdrift Game Lodge where you meet their three orphaned elephants. Take a dip in the pool to cool off, then end your day in your luxury air-conditioned safari tent. Check into your luxury air-conditioned safari tent at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, then relax on the wooden veranda and enjoy views across the Karoo.

DAY 11

Route 62 - Paarl

Rise early to embark in an open safari vehicle to meet a resident family of meerkat at their burrow and enjoy observing their interaction. Take a scenic drive on Route62 pass spectacular views of rock formations, stark cliff faces, bustling rivers, cast orchards and indigenous scrub. Since Route 62 is famous for being the longest wine route in the world, stop by a few wine farms to view their cellars and enjoy unique food and wine pairings. Enjoy a hearty country lunch with wine at Van Loveren Estate. End your drive through the vineyards and olive groves of Du Toitskloof Pass. End your day with olive oil tasting and a three-course dinner prepared with locally sourced produce. Check into Cacade Country Manor located in the heart of the Paarl Winelands with the backdrop of the majestic Klein Drakenstein Mountains.

DAY 12

Franschoek - Stellenbosch - Cape Town

Enjoy a drive through Drakenstein Moiuntains to the village of Franschoek with a stop at Victor Verster Prison where Nelson Mandela was released. The village of Franschhoek is a culinary mecca and wine haven. Enjoy a cellar tour and wine tasting at Clos Cabriere Cellar and lunch at Bread & Wine restaurant on the Moreson Estate. Your drive continues across Helshoogte Pass to Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch boasts over 200 wine and grape producers set among streets lined with water furrows, 300 year old oak trees and Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings dating back to the 1700s. Stop for an afternoon snack at Table Mountain, then ease into dinner at Africa Café. Check into Mandel Rhodes Place which houses modern 5-star apartments in gloriously restored buildings.

DAY 13

Cape Town

Experience an eclectic blend of old and new at Cape Town. Appreciate history through meticulously preserved buildings with Cape Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian architecture. Explore the streets scattered with street vendors and cultural events. Don’t miss the glorious view of the city from Table Mountain which serves as a nature reserve. Tour Cape Malay Quarter, known for colorful houses and good food, and the Company’s Garden. Spend the rest of the afternoon wandering designer shops, souvenir stalls, street food and the boardwalk at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Enjoy dinner, wine and a spectacular view of the harbor at Cape Town Fish Market.

DAY 14

Cape Peninsula

Take a scenic drive pass the shimmering white beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay to the quaint fishing village of Hout Bay. Stop for a cup of tea T-Bag Design Factory. Continue along Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, known as the smallest floral kingdom in the world. Spend the rest of your day amongst 4000 species of indigenous plants at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Spend your last night in South Africa at Richard’s Supper Stagewhere you enjoy a musical comedy with a four-course meal.
