Itinerary

DAY 1

Casablanca - Rabat - Sale

Tour Casablanca, a port city with a blend of tradition and modernism, with your private guide. Wander the central market, take a stroll at Parc de La Ligue Arabe or admire local art at Villa des Arts. Rabat will be the next stop where you have your choice of walking the central beach, exploring the medina and monuments or browsing the streets for street art. Continue to Sale on the other side of the Bou Regreg River. Often overlooked, Sale has a friendly ambience of a traditional Moroccan working-class town where you get a glimpse into a slower pace of life.

DAY 2

Tangier

Start your day in Tangier at Gran Cafe de Paris, one of the City’s most famous cafes and a regular stop for Tangier writers. Admire the picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean and Strait of Gibraltar before you head into the Medina Pick up handicrafts made from leather, wood and silver. Finish your tour at the boutiques of Petit Sacco.

DAY 3

Chefchauouen

Enjoy a drive through the mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and Iberian Peninsula to the beautiful city of Chefchaouen. Your guide will lead you through the City’s shaded alleys where you will admire beautiful wrought iron windows, colorful tiled roofs and vibrant blue houses.

DAY 4

Meknes - Volubilis - Moulay Idriss - Fes

Your drive to Fes will include a few stops along the way. First stop is Meknes, an Imperial City perched on a scenic hilltop. Admire Bab Mansour, one of the world’s most famous doors, and the Royal Stables which once housed 12,000 horses. Next, take a step back in time and see the ancient Roman city, Volubilis. Lastly, see the holy village of Moulay Idriss which was only recently opened to non-Muslim visitors and is considered one of the country’s most authentic and untraveled stops.

DAY 5

Merzouga

Prepare for a long seven hour drive from Fes to Merzouga with a few stops along the way at Midelt and Rissani. After lunch, your desert safari adventure begins when you board a 4x4 vehicle and head to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, the largest dunes in the Sahara Desert. You will camp in the desert where you witness the sunset over the desert dune and enjoy the changing colors of the landscape as the night settles in.

DAY 6

Ouarzazate

Awake to the rising sun of the desert, then continue on your tour to Todra Gorges, a massive canyon reaching some 300 meters (900 feet) high and continuing for some 100 meters (300 feet). You continue through Dades Valley and Ouarzazate

DAY 7

Marrakech

Your drive from Ouarzazate to Marrakech will include a stop at Aït Ben Haddou, where movies such as Gladiator and Jesus Of Nazareth were filmed, and the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass.

DAY 8

Marrakech

First stop in Marrakech is the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque. This mosque's beautiful minaret dominates the skyline of Marrakech and can be seen from almost everywhere in the City. You will also visit the El-Bahia Palace, a 19th century palace with elaborate decoration and built over a period of seven years for Ba Ahmed. One of most visited sites in Morocco is the Saadian Tombs includes an enclosed garden watched over by two mausoleums that include more than one hundred mosaic-decorated tombs. The last stop is Koranic School Medersa Ben Youssef, a Theological college founded by the Merenid Sultan Abu Hassan in the 14th century. It was restored in 1564 by the Saadians who made it the largest theological college in the Maghreb and a rival to the important Medersa Bou Inania in Fés.

DAY 9

Marrakech

You travel south from Marrakech along the hairpin bends to one of two passes through the High Atlas Mountains. Perhaps make a brief stop at the Berber villages of Tahanoute or Asni and continue to the village of Imlil, where you will take a ten-minute walk up or hire a mule to Kasbah du Toubkal. Situated on a hilltop with commanding views of the surrounding valley, the Kasbah du Toubkal was built as a summer palace for the Pasha El Glaoui. It is now a wonderful place to experience Berber hospitality and a great base from which to explore the High Atlas. Enjoy a traditional Berber lunch on the terrace overlooking the snow-capped peaks or a picnic lunch on the trail. Spend the afternoon taking a stroll to a nearby Berber village, where you are invited to share mint tea with the locals.

DAY 10

Essaouira

Essaouira is one of the most picturesque towns in the country. Explore the fortifications that ring the city were built by the Portuguese and is inherent to the charm of Essaouira. You will have time to see the other attractions including the port, where a daily supply of fresh fish can be found, and the tremendous beach that stretches away to the south. The easy-going nature of the town, the medina, the dramatic fortifications and the beach, have created a bohemian atmosphere quite different from the rest of the country.

DAY 11

Essaouira

Essaouira offers a great variety of optional activities. Enjoy a free day mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, sailing, surfing, or visiting a vineyards or argan oil producer.

DAY 12

Casablanca

Return to Casablanca where you can continue touring the city with a guide, or enjoy your last day in Morocco at your leisure.

Casablanca | Depart Casablanca
