Itinerary

DAY 1

Cairo

The mayhem of Cairo, with its eclectic mix of ancient and modern, is a great place to kickstart this adventure. Take a deep breath when beholding the extraordinary Pyramids and Sphinx for the first time. Afterwards, make your way to the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world's great collections of antiquities.

DAY 2

Aswan

Nestled between the desert and the Nile, Aswan is an exotic gateway to the rest of Africa. Take time here to check out one of the country's best bazaars and hone your bargaining technique. Later, visit a local Nubian village for an unforgettable night of traditional food, song and dance.

DAY 3

Abu Simbel

Visit stunning Abu Simbel this morning. With the four gargantuan statues of Ramses guarding the Great Temple, carved directly out of the mountain on the west bank of the Nile, this is one of Egypt's most memorable sights. Evening cultural dinner at Nubian Village.

DAY 4

The Nile

Board a felucca and spend a day out on the river, watching rural Egyptian daily life play out on the banks, then spend a night under the stars. Your Nubian sailing crew provides all the meals, which are hearty and delicious.

DAY 5

The Nile 

Continue your leisurely cruise down the Nile, with today’s stop at Kom Ombo Temple and lively Edfu town.

DAY 6

Luxor

The Nile cruise comes to an end in the open air museum of Luxor – from the spectacular temple complex of Karnak to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor is full of wonderfully preserved reminders of the Pharaohs.

DAY 7

Inca Trail

Start early to climb the long steep path to Warmiwañusca, better known as Dead Woman’s Pass. This is the highest point of the trek at 4,198m (13,769 ft). Most hikers reach camp by early afternoon, with ample time to rest and relax.

Luxor

Morning hot air balloon over the majestic Luxor temples.

Alexandria

Train from Luxor to Alexandria.

Alexandria

Sightsee the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria. Egypt's second largest city and main port town, it's a vibrant city with a contrast of ancient and modern ways.

DAY 11

Mt Sinai

Travel through to the Sinai region and watch as desert terrain turns into rugged mountains. Ride a camel to the top of Mt Sinai for panoramic desert views and visit the legendary St Katherine's Monastery, built around the biblical burning bush.

DAY 12

Red Sea

Laze at your beach resort along the shores of the Red Sea.

DAY 13

Red Sea

Go snorkeling or diving among the famous reefs in the Red Sea – fine reef walls, lovely fan corals, and colourful fish – and explore the extraordinary ecosystem.

DAY 14

Cairo

On your return to the capital, visit the Islamic parts of the city and the frenetic backstreets of the local bazaar (Khan el-Khalili)A labyrinth of narrow streets and passageways, Khan is one of the biggest and oldest markets in the world. The 'Khan', sprawling around an old area known as Al-Azhar, is a quintessentially Cairo experience – a warren of alleys with stalls serving up a succession of intoxicating scenes. It retains a distinctly medieval feel. You might explore the gold market, ‘Perfume Street’ and the spice market, where heady aromas hang in the air like a thick blanket of Damascene cloth (which can be purchased next door in the cloth market).
